Gwel – Brest, a city in flight, a city in equilibrium, takes shape in these energetic images, decadent with a fresh violence and a sweet poetry. The surveyor photographer multiplies the points of view and exhausts the urban and maritime nuances of his monochrome palette: White Brest crushed by the sun on the pier from which Pasolinian teenagers are jumping, grey Brest from the bottom of Siam sparkling under the drizzle coming from Ouessant or in the gondola of the cable car swinging above the arsenal, anthracite Brest seen from the sky under the falot eye of a mocking seagull, black Brest closer to the wet cobblestones under the wheels of the skateboarders of Kennedy Park or the doc Martens of the protesting students. Brest of my heart, stumbling and terminal Brest. Brest with skies pierced by lights between two showers also has its dark hours, “but on the bridge of Recouvrance, It is so beautiful to see”; as in a song of Miossec, as on a photograph of Daniel Molinier.”
