Le Moindre souffle – Inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses, an album in which the photographer links the animal, plant, mineral and human worlds in a kind of cosmogony that highlights the intertwining of living elements, their relationship to the whole and their interactions.
Sandra Rocha drew her inspiration for the photographs in this book from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Where Ovid’s classic metamorphosis is a collection of myths in which human or divine beings metamorphose into other beings of nature, Sandra Rocha draws directly on the animal, vegetable and mineral worlds, linking them in a kind of cosmogony. The human presence is taken on the same level as all the other elements that make up our world. Photographically, Sandra Rocha questions what a philosopher like Emanuele Coccia has been able to develop in his recent works: how the elements of life can interact with one another while being intrinsically linked to the whole. A kind of Eden regained that the photographer reinvents in Le moindre souffle; text “La forme des choses / The shape of things” by João Pinharanda, color photos.
