"SPECTRA est né d’un rêve, d’une vision qui s’est accrochée à moi au réveil, une sensation étrange et tenace. J’avais rêvé que la Dent du Géant, sommet emblématique du massif du Mont-Blanc, se dressait au milieu d’un océan arctique, majestueuse et solitaire. Face à elle, je dérivais — peut-être sur un bateau — flottant sur ces eaux glaciales et irréelles. Ce paysage, à la fois étranger et profondément ancré dans ma mémoire de montagnard, me hantait comme une image à la frontière du réel, un fragment onirique entrevu dans les limbes de la perception. Je me suis empressé de retrouver une photographie de ce sommet dans mes archives et, à l’aide d’outils numériques, j’ai tenté de recréer cette vision.

Julien Lacroix est photographe et montagnard, né à Annecy en 1985.
Son travail explore le paysage alpin sous un angle sensible et contemplatif, à mi-chemin entre documentaire et interprétation artistique. Il cherche à révéler la montagne autrement, loin des images de performance, en y traquant le beau, l’éphémère, l’invisible. Après Les Grandes Solitudes de Jacques Balmat (2019) et Mon Guide (2021), co-écrit avec Mathéo Jacquemoud, SPECTRA marque un tournant plus spéculatif dans sa pratique, où la fiction et l’imaginaire viennent perturber la réalité du relief.

"SPECTRA was born from a dream, a vision that clung to me upon waking, a strange, persistent sensation. I had dreamed that the Dent du Géant, the iconic peak of the Mont-Blanc massif, stood majestic and solitary in the middle of an Arctic ocean. Facing it, I was drifting — perhaps on a boat — floating on those icy, unreal waters. This landscape, both foreign and deeply ingrained in my memory as a mountaineer, haunted me like an image on the edge of reality, a dreamlike fragment glimpsed in the limbo of perception. I quickly sought out a photograph of this summit in my archives, and using digital tools, I attempted to recreate this vision.
For the first time, I was not just capturing reality; I was reshaping it, merging it with my imagination to explore a hybrid territory, where the tangible and the intangible converge."

Julien Lacroix is a photographer and mountaineer, born in Annecy in 1985.
His work explores the alpine landscape from a sensitive, contemplative perspective, somewhere between documentary and artistic interpretation. He seeks to reveal the mountain in a new light, far from performance-based images, by tracking beauty, the ephemeral, and the invisible. After Les Grandes Solitudes de Jacques Balmat (2019) and Mon Guide (2021), co-written with Mathéo Jacquemoud, SPECTRA marks a more speculative turn in his practice, where fiction and imagination disrupt the reality of the terrain.
