Back To Back - From Backyard To Boulevard, shines a spotlight on the lowrider culture of
Los Angeles, CA. In the mid-20th century, highly anticipated social events
have begun to bloom on Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles, where
cars with elongated bodies and little body roll are proudly displayed
exposed. Launched by a new generation of Latinos from Texas, the Southwest
and Southern California, the scene expanded to include black Americans who
helped make funk, R&B and hip-hop central elements of the
culture. These young men and women, who refused to assimilate, used
these automotive masterpieces as a bold statement of their
freedom. Lowriders are an expression of cultural, social identity
and religious of those who personalize and exhibit them. They are endowed with the
hydropump system, originally used in aeronautical technology, which
allows owners to adjust the suspension by pressing
switches to produce an extreme body movement called
today "hopping". On the outside, they are decorated with
colorful stripes, glitter, candy paint, faces of
rappers like Tupac Shakur and Nate Dogg, and religious idols.
 interior, upholstery, ornaments and accessories
 reflect the manufacturers' fantasies.
