Beautiful pebble
Built on a limestone plateau, in a fertile plain, the city of
Beaucaire is crossed by the Rhône. Former quarry having once served as
the construction of a largely destroyed medieval castle, it fuels
Today a cement factory, an incinerator. There is an old track there
Roman, a canal and a marina, an industrial area. A city center
abandoned, aging low-rent apartment buildings, areas
recent suburban housing. A population, inhabitants, groups of individuals
constituted, a centripetal movement. This documentary story makes this city
an inhabited place. Who are its inhabitants? What are their lives made of?
do they cross paths, and if so, in what places? How are they linked? During
For several months, Alexandre Dimos traveled through this city in the company of the
photographer Stéphanie Lacombe to try to grasp the mechanisms and the
dynamic. Beaucaire is the name of this city in movement and tension, where
fears and fantasies, hopes and drying up of imaginations, multiplicities
and differences stretch the social bond. Two points of view intersect and
attempt, by each describing this place in their own way, to question its modes
of life. Made up of around 200 photographs, this story also unfolds in
thread of a text written by Alexandre Dimos. This project was the winner of the commission
public New Worlds, at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture.
