Beware - When the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris asked Ari Marcopoulos to curate an exhibition around his acquisition “Brown Bag,” a short film about skateboarders in New York that he made in 1993, he had access to the museum’s collection of more than 15,000 works. He looked for themes related to the body, injury, and architecture, as well as works that he found difficult and confusing. Some of the artists were already familiar to him, others were new to him. The process wasn’t so different from his own as a filmmaker and photographer: Much of his work is about finding things. This book takes a fresh look at photographs from the time Marcopoulos made “Brown Bag.”
