CHARACTER is a multimedia artistic project that crosses the boundaries of fiction and documentary to go in search of Winston Smith, the famous character from George Orwell's novel 1984. "I have often imagined meeting a character from a novel, wondering if he would fit the image, physical, psychological that I had made of it while reading. I then looked for namesakes of emblematic romantic figures, with the desire to confront my projections to the reality of those who bear a name loaded with a history that is not theirs. I stopped at Winston Smith, the hero of "1984", which seemed to me to match my research concerns: areas of tension between intimate and political, individual and fiction, authority and social norm. According to the English directory, there are at least 25 people with the same surname that this character currently residing in London. Here I go on the footsteps of Winston Smith."
