CLOCKI
CLOCKI
"What time is it? It's time to have fun!!!" This is the cult motto
of Clocki, the mascot in the shape of an alarm clock with its big eyes and its
tangled needle-mustaches that ring every day for snack time
to millions of children in front of their television sets. Originally a gang hero
drawn, Clocki saw his career take off in 1932 thanks to the triumph
international film “Clocki and the Talking Clock”, the very first cartoon
sound and color of the history of cinema. He has made feature films and
becomes a real star. It was at the height of his glory in 1955 that
inaugurated the Clockiland amusement park, a dream paradise of entertainment which
still brings joy to young and old today. But the fairy tale
that we are being sold could hide a very dark reality… In CLOCKI, Mathias
Martinez builds the memories of an imaginary park and tells the hidden side
of its success. In each chapter, a protagonist who knew the park
different eras bear witness to a key moment in the life of the park (a mascot,
a ride enthusiast, a former employee and a little girl who is passionate about Clocki).
Inspired by American cartoons from the 1930s from Fleischer studios (Betty Boop,
Koko the Clown…), Mathias Martinez distorts the universe by dipping his
characters in large vats of acid. His drawings drip, the sets
melt, the perspective distorts as if the film had burned in the
spotlight, reinforcing the grotesque and disturbing atmosphere of the parks
of attractions.
