Garbage Man

Garbage Man could be referring to Tal R himself as a collector obsessed with what other people would call waste. The collection and the arrangement of images is an integral part of his artistic practice and arise from an inner necessity. The Yiddish word kolbojnik (waste, leftovers) also runs through the artist's work in the title of several of his works. His collection, which can be found in the various collages, consists in an eclectic mix of "primitive tribal art", masterpieces of art history, porn, comics, private photos, images childhood, sketches and picture books, and was collected by Tal R on a period of 25 years. These pieces, which serve as models for the artist for his paintings and sculptures, evoke, in their associations of elements pseudo-encyclopedic, the Mnemosyne Atlas of Aby Warburg or the Atlas of Gerhard Richter.
