Hibi
Hibi
Hibi literally comprises a series of street photographs of the famous
Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase. Each of the images in black and white
attaches itself carefully to the road surface - worn road markings,
the fading lines and spires eroded by the countless inhabitants
of the city, a network of cracks in the asphalt. In 1992, Fukase printed and
painted the works for a solo exhibition, “Private Scenes' 92,” held at
Nikon Salon in Tokyo. He superimposed a set of bromide prints with
flowing drawings in brightly colored inks and on each image the
physical presence of the artist is traced, a shadowy presence that seems
offer a reading, an interpretation but which can never be entirely
resolved.
