JOEL DENOT - BILINGUAL EDITION - ILLUSTRATIONS, COLOR
This volume constitutes the first monograph dedicated to the work of photographer Joël
Denot. His photographs escape the eye as well as classification: they do not
are neither figurative nor abstract, they are simultaneously part of a
pictorial thought. They are above all matter, form and color. They are
beyond the image. We see colored surfaces floating in the void,
framing each other and casting colored shadows that
superimpose: orange then pale pink then blue then bright pink; red then green
then pink then gray-blue. A succession of planes floating in the colored void
that surrounds them. With also, after a while, in a corner, if we look
well, another form, that of a body appearing. Or of
disappear. Escaping the gaze there again. Body of the artist who begins to
the work, in the work, thus finding the photographic trace that the rest of
the image would make us forget, articulating pictorial gesture and photographic gesture
through the figure of this body which shines through, as if cast in color.
