Making Friends with the Octopus: ruangrupa since 2000

Combining elements of youth culture with popular aesthetics, ruangrupa's collective actions promote and protect an unrestricted, experimental space for art. Little has been written about Indonesian artist collective ruangrupa (ruru), despite its acclaim during Documenta 15. This publication offers a discursive account of ruru's practice, evolving in response to Jakarta's diverse communities.
