N.Y.C. Traverses
N.Y.C. Traverses
As they wander around New York, photographers Patricia Marais and
Cyrille Derouineau took a dual look at different neighborhoods of the
city on a daily basis, each equipped with a Holga 6 x 6 toy camera the first
loaded in black and white the second in color. In the end they selected 50
photographs of which 36 are assembled in a bw/color diptych, and 14 presented
alone.
They suggested to Albane Gellé, a French poet, to write from their images. She composed 22 short texts which were translated by Jennifer K. Dick, American author living in France.
[...] Finished scalpel cutouts and blinding contrasts, here is the city and its pedestrians bathed in the thickness of the air. While the city was represented like a modernist decor, here it is inhabited by an interior world.
Michael Poivert (extract from the preface)
