Quartier réservé
Quartier réservé
Between the two wars, the Red Light District of Marseille was a real haven
of banditry and prostitution. But it was also there that jazz arrived with
American soldiers on stopover.
This is where a family drama plays out. A father, an Italian immigrant and pimp
wants his son to take over the management of his brothel with all dignity,
Colchides. But the son devotes himself to other, more subtle passions: poetry,
writing and jazz.
Reserved area is a double testimony: that of the father, describing the side
jubilant of a time and a place where everything was permitted, and that of the son,
which paints the misery of the girls of joy and the hope of a vocation which must
to be accomplished outside of paternal plans.
