Roman Signer: New Works
Roman Signer: New Works
An automatic lawn mower rings a bell, an inflatable balloon
leaves a trace in the sand, a boat sails on barrels. At Roman's
Signer (*1938 in Appenzell), everything is in motion - without rules, one can
ask how much this inspires his speech? No, the artist conceives well
more sculpture as a procedural description of a state and thus extends the
three familiar dimensions of objects to a fourth: time. Which has earned
his works to be called "time sculptures" (Zeitskulptur).
However, Roman Signer's works have long occupied a position
prominent on the international scene, he was notably present at the documenta
(1987), at the Skulptur Projekten in Münster (1997). The book of the
Kestnergesellschaft thus presents a perfectly known artist and his all
latest works that once again fill us with the inherent poetry
to things and the grotesque in everyday life.
