Sainte à barbe
Sainte à barbe
She is found in many traditions. Legendary saint, of origin
Catholic, she is, as custom dictates, a miraculously virgin
bearded, then crucified. Depending on the territories and circumstances, our saint
is called Wilgeforte, Liberata, Kümmernis, Uncumber or even Débarras. Its
cult, which took off during the 14th century, did not fail to arouse
the curiosity of painters and sculptors, writers and theologians.
Thus, two texts have been grouped under this cover which highlight
and highlight the extraordinary adventure of this young woman escaping
strangely to his fate, and his gender, to adopt characteristics
considered eminently masculine: hairiness and the torture of the cross.
