SELECTED WRITINGS
SELECTED WRITINGS
Born in New York and now based in Paris, photographer Richard Kalvar has
spent more than 50 years observing humanity through the lens of his camera
photo. With Selected Writings, he shifts his gaze from faces to
different ways of people expressing themselves in writing: graffiti, signs, t-shirts,
banners, tombstones and other public inscriptions. This corpus in black
and white, which mixes irony and tenderness, runs through his entire career, from the end
from the 1960s to today, and covers different locations in the Western world,
especially in Paris, New York and London. From the strange to the surprising in
passing through the frankly funny, it gives a resolutely subjective overview of
the public use of writing.
