Textile Textures
Textile Textures: Multithreaded Narratives is a collective work edited by
Marta Kowalewska, result of the international project “Interweaving Structures:
Fabric as Material, Method and Message” jointly organized by the Museum
Central Textile Museum in Łódź, the Faculty of Fine Arts, Music and
design from the University of Bergen and the Doctoral School of the Academy of
Fine Arts Jan Matejko from Krakow.
The originality of the book lies in its multidimensional approach to textiles,
considered from the perspective of art, history, anthropology,
technology, politics, post-colonialism, museology,
conservation and fashion, crossing questions about identity, tradition,
craftsmanship, collaboration and kinship with architecture,
design and industry. Individual themes are examined in relation to the
question of textiles as a tangible support of memory and a unique language
which, by virtue of its very nature, interweaves a variety of different themes.
