The Hotel - In 1981, Sophie Calle gets hired as a chambermaid in
a Venetian hotel. Loading microphone and camera into his trolley
housekeeping, she begins to investigate the lives of customers, monitors the condition of
beds, reads their newspapers, books and postcards, smells their perfumes and
observes their clothes or carnival costumes. She ends up knowing their
dates of birth and blood types, their sexual habits. This work
on intimacy and narration, present in the book Double Jeu, is published here
separately for the first time.
