William Klein : Yes
William Klein : Yes
A photographer, filmmaker, graphic designer and painter, William Klein is one
of the most important and productive artists of the last seventy-five years
years.
While it would take a lifetime to master each of these techniques,
Klein produced a transversal work in which each medium echoes
another. Considered one of the great image creators of the 20th century, he has
developed a protean body of work, which has profoundly influenced many
artists, both photographers and filmmakers.
William Klein – Yes, published on the occasion of his major retrospective exhibition at
The International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York traces the career of
the artist in a reference book: nearly 400 pages and around 250 images
allow you to discover or rediscover photographic work and
cinematographic, but also pictorial work, at the base of his practice.
As such, the publication opens with his first paintings, before
unfold, in chronological order, its different series: from the most famous
such as street photography from New York or Tokyo, passing, among others, through
Paris, Rome, or Moscow, up to his more recent works and films. Ultimate
monographic work, William Klein – Yes is
completed with a long essay by David Campany, director of the ICP and curator
internationally renowned exhibition. Campany discusses Klein's career,
how he became the artist he is today. This introduction is
richly illustrated with documents which shed light on the rereading of the work.
Like all his publications, this work, with its very simple layout,
graphic, was designed in close collaboration with Klein.
