Corrections

Corrections – Sigurdur Arni Sigurdsson associates a found image with a graphic intervention, more or less important: these are his Corrections, real extensions of the image that has already had a first life.

We do not joke with the geometry of the sun. Everyone knows this, and Sigurdur Arni Sigurdsson more than anyone.

Moreover, his painting at first glance does not seem to be joking: we know him since twenty years that we see him in France this economy of the painting made of flat tints often monochrome, of decided figures (circles often), sometimes in reserve of color and showing then the naked canvas; but also of landscapes which, in their simplification, seem to belong to a world of artifice, of an ideality of toy or model, of that which would live a great developer dreaming to simplify the world, to smooth the disorders and the irregularities of the nature, to the profit of full and consistent forms.

On the other side of the work on canvas, or on paper, or even the realization of projects in the public space which, moreover, often – as with the one he realized at his home in Iceland, or with this very recent public commission, The Praise of Nature in Loupian, near Montpellier, play with the light of the stars – there is a work that we had hardly seen until now, which could have remained a kind of workshop recreation and remain in secrecy: it is the Corrections that the artist shows today.
