Diplopia

Diplopia – “I lived next to an elementary school. Every morning I woke up to the sound of the bell. At every recess, I wondered what the children could play.

A spyglass was lying on one of my shelves and I looked through it. The yard was too far away so I stopped at the rooftops. I scrutinized them in great detail. I was overwhelmed to see them so close, and when I took my eye off the lens I rediscovered the whole landscape. Closing my left eye, then my right eye, I saw alternately the wide shot and the close-up.

Spontaneously, I placed this spyglass in front of the lens of my camera so that these successive visions would come together in the same image. The blur that appeared between these different shots gave me the impression of looking at a single landscape at two scales and of building a new world with these lenses. So I left my house, to see if I could transform everything.”
