L’arc sera parmi les nuages – Invited to the INSTANTS residency at Château Palmer, Henrike Stahl photographed the work of winegrowers, immersing herself in their world. She observed young people from the suburbs of Bordeaux being trained to work in the vineyard: “I photographed them, I observed the gestures they passed on, the techniques. That’s one of the first things that struck me when I arrived here: the sheer number of beginners trying their hand at working the land, supervised by more experienced winegrowers”.

Inspired by photographers such as Nan Goldin, Wolfgang Tillmans and Rineke Dijkstra, Henrike’s photography is humanistic and timeless. She avoids sensationalism, choosing instead to depict the margins without stigma. She favors unexpected beauty and works with living matter, using techniques that do not distort reality.

For her project at Château Palmer, she experimented with integrating nature into her creative process, burying portraits or exposing them to natural elements, reflecting the interconnection between art, nature and wine. Nature, she believes, is the ultimate curator of her exhibition, underlining the power and influence of the natural environment on her art.
