LEVA LEVA – pack – Litany of Portuguese Fishermen
pack : book + vinyl
In collaboration with the French-Portuguese cultural season, the artistic platform FLEE will prensented its fourth project entitled: LEVA LEVA Litany of Portuguese Fishermen.
For most of the 20th century, Portugal’s economy was based on fishing and a most alienating canning industry. In order to endure this burden and coordinate their work, the fishermen sang together. Leva Leva: Litany of Portuguese Fishermen tells the story of this culture unique to the Portuguese coast, through a vinyl compilation containing original recordings of fishermen’s songs, as well as contemporary compositions by artists such as Filipa Cordeiro, Joăo Pais Filipe, Nandele, Romain Baudoin and S1m0nc3ll0. In parallel, the project also proposes a detailed book (Portuguese – French) gathering artists, writers, witnesses, experts, all invited to reflect on the issue of this socio-musical phenomenon, as well as its brutal transformation. Under the artistic direction of the creative bureau Non-Verbal Club, accompanied by an immersive ins-tallation at the Museum of Art and Technology of Lisbon (MAAT), the transmedia object, comprehendingof an LP and book, is packed with an innovative recycled box.
