Meat, Fish & Aubergine Caviar – An intimate story that reflects Ukrainian and Odesian culture through the prism of food and family, and is intrinsically the self-portrait of a person destroyed by childhood trauma. During a period spent close to her parents in Odessa, photography became a way for Alex to communicate and connect with her mother and father during a difficult period in their lives. She takes photos day by day, at home and at street markets, while creating a utopian universe through her lens – where life is beautiful and her parents become the selves they dream of in front of the camera. Meat, Fish & Aubergine Caviar embraces the complexity of family dynamics through mutual experiences and visceral revelations.

Yevheniia, Alex’s mother, shares three of her most delicious recipes in detail, and the book’s format is inspired by community cookbooks intended to be shared among friends and neighbors.
