« At the beginning, I wanted to compose a kind of inventory of contemporary Morocco. That’s why the title, MOROCCO, is generalist. In the end, it is more about my conception of Morocco today. (…) As I went along, I wanted to show much more emotional links, energies that move away from the first degree. You could say that it is a constellation of images that end up saying something about me, and my relationship to the land of my parents.

(…) Morocco is like that. There are places where you feel like you are stuck in the 1990s. And two hours later down the road, you find yourself in 2020. The employees my father works with have the same lifestyle as 50 years ago. Whereas in Casablanca, everything is hyperdeveloped. As for the generations, they have a hard time understanding each other because they have not been confronted with the same dreams. For example, my father’s generation accepted his fate, and the idea of going elsewhere was an unattainable dream – a form of fatalism. Today, Moroccan youth have a window on the world that calls them and makes them dream of a better life. This leads to absolute frustration. They put their lives on hold, hoping one day to leave, but they are stuck where their dreams end.
