NYC Traverses – Wandering around New York, photographers Patricia Marais and Cyrille Derouineau took a dual look at different parts of the city on a daily basis, each equipped with a Holga 6âxâ6 camera toy, the first loaded in black and white, the second in color. In the end, they selected 50 photographs, 36 of which are assembled in b/w/c diptychs, and 14 presented on their own. They asked Albane Gellé, a French poet, to write about their images.
She wrote 22 short texts that were translated by Jennifer K. Dick, an American author living in France. [… ] Gone are the scalpel-sharp cuts and blinding contrasts, here’s the city and its pedestrians bathed in the thickness of the air. Whereas the city was depicted as a modernist setting, here it is inhabited by an inner world. Michel Poivert (excerpt from the preface)
