Poster Photo Magazine n°1 – Photography is an image in itself, whose circulation seems endless. Everywhere and nowhere, an image as elusive as it is desirable. Infiltrated into the glossy paper of a fashion or news magazine, encrypted in the lines of code of an Internet publication. It appears distant, stopped by a medium that reduces it to a size and definition that place the myth of the print beyond (our) reach.
Poster Photo Magazine, published by Empire Books , is printed twice a year on offset and gloss-coated paper. Each issue showcases the work of twelve photographers on a range of themes specific to the periodical press: sport, fashion, cars, travel, beauty, animals, architecture, cinema, history…. This heterogeneous exploration of approaches to modern and contemporary photography is based on a simple principle: its composition in twelve 50 x 68 cm wall posters, folded and detachable. Each image is introduced by a notice.
The magazine favors a cross-disciplinary vision of photography practices. Its field of vision honors the work of iconic photographers and includes the talent of the new generation; the approach of iconographic artists is confronted with the latest tools of photorealistic production. Poster Photo Magazine is as much a tool for viewing as for critiquing, for publishing as for curating, for collecting as for decorating, for making aesthetics accessible beyond their sacralization.
Never before have images been so destined to spread out from their pages, pierced by four tacks (not included), to take over our walls and strike our retinas with the full force of their resolution. By desecrating the assumed cross-fold, the recipients return to the origins of the genre, the posters inserted in popular publications: soccer, music, motorcycles or ponies, often aimed at young people who thus appropriated the figure of their totems.
