To invent a new pedagogy of architecture, more intellectual, methodical, open to the modern world, attuned to the human sciences, training architects committed to serving the community: such was the ambition of the students and the students of the University of Paris II., young graduates who, around Bernard Huet, participated in 1969 in the creation of UP8, which was to become the National Superior School of Architecture of Paris-Belleville. Their critical reflections, notes of intentions and programs are all founding texts that have guided teaching in Belleville for at least three decades. They are gathered together on the occasion of the school’s 50th anniversary, but they are likely to provide a broader basis for the current debate.
