Vivantes !

The book Vivantes ! is the continuation of a series of exhibitions organized by the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA, wishing to question the presence of women artists within its collection of contemporary art while opening this question to other eras. From the Venus of Brassempouy to Louise Bourgeois, from the “bad girls” to the skjaldmös (warrior virgins, in medieval Scandinavia), or from Joséphine Baker to Rosa Bonheur, this work draws up a sensitive and critical inventory. It points out the road travelled and that which remains to be surveyed to allow women to exist in the same rank as men in the field of creation and the field of representations.
