9 gates of no return

In 9 GATES OF NO RETURN , Agata Grzybowska introduces 9 people who, for various reasons and life choices, have decided to leave their city life behind and move to the woods of the Bieszczady Mountains in southeastern Poland. The Bieszczady, which for many are a symbol of freedom and direct, tangible contact with nature, have become a trap for them from which they cannot escape. They live far from others, often without electricity or running water, in huts that they have built themselves. \n \nWhy did they make such decisions? What drove them? What were they fleeing from? What did they want to achieve in this way? What do loneliness and melancholy mean to them? These are just some of the questions that Grzybowska tries to answer in 9 GATES OF NO RETURN . \n \nComposed of two parts, Grzybowska's book contains extremely powerful portraits and landscapes printed in four-colour process, accompanied by colourful Polaroids and memorable handwritten interviews. All the photographs were taken during several of Grzybowska's winter stays in the Bieszczady Mountains.
