Akira Yamaguchi
Akira Yamaguchi
For twenty years, Akira Yamaguchi has imposed a style of painting
unique, a mixture of classicism and contemporary irreverence that make him
one of the few Japanese artists as renowned inside as outside the
Japan. In his gigantic canvases with undeniable narrative power, we
embarks on a space-time journey where we come across horse-motorcycles,
samurai having tea, or even androgynous warrior deities who
look down with disdain. Homage to traditional painting and manga of the years
70, his work is not devoid of wit and even less of humor.
Behind the graphic demonstration, it is the history of Japan that unfolds,
peppered with a satire of globalization and progress.
