This is not an architecture book but a photography book about a
architecture that expresses itself through diversity. It is a work that intends
offer a photographic look at buildings in Abidjan bearing
the imprint of a certain "tropical modernism". More precisely, Album
Architectures, Abidjan is the testimony of a meeting between two individuals
who inhabit and share an aesthetic and emotional attachment to the city
lagoon. Issa Diabaté, architect, contemporary actor of the future
architectural of this city which never ceases to reinvent itself. François-Xavier
Gbré, a photographer who made architecture his preferred medium
of understanding the hidden history of places by considering the architectures
as the sedimentary traces of social and political changes in a country,
Ivory Coast.
This work, and the Album Architectures collection more broadly, aims
initiate a reflection on the definition of the notion of contemporary heritage
through the enhancement of rich and unique architectural landscapes, not
always identified, often invisible, of cities in perpetual change
urban.
