On the occasion of Amélie Bertrand's personal exhibition at the museum of
the Orangerie in the contemporary Contrepoints cycle, Semiose publishes in
collaboration with the museum a catalog polarized around the series of 8
paintings painted especially in response to this invitation. The reproductions
are put into perspective with the few tondis painted by Monet (figuring
in the collections of the Vernon museum, the MAMC of Saint-Etienne, the museum of
Dallas), and photographs of the respective studios of the two artists. As
As author Mara Hoberman points out, "Despite stylistic and
obvious techniques, there are deep affinities between these two painters
modern landscapers who are interested in the feeling that the
landscapes, and not just their appearance."
