  • An unconventional approach This volume, which accompanies the exhibition “Art Brut Cuba” organized in Lausanne by The Art Brut Collection brings together texts by Cuban authors and specialists in the field, as well as reproductions of works and letters unpublished works found in the archives of the Collection. The exhibition is a dive into the world of Cuban outsider art, more forty years after the founding exhibition born from Jean Dubuffet's desire to to include works by Cuban artists in the Art Brut Collection collected by his friend Samuel Feijóo, who was the curator of the exhibition of 1983. Cuba, because of its insularity, its particular history, its isolation political and economic conditions that were imposed on him for a long time, constitute a breeding ground fertile ground for creations not influenced by the cultural traditions of the outside world. The exhibition consists of two sections: the first presents the most most emblematic of the Signos group, founded by Feijóo in the late 1960s to promote Cuban popular culture through graphic arts; second, recent ones, by outsider artists from Studio Riera. Most of the The works exhibited are made with natural materials – wood, jute fiber – or recovery – packaging cardboard, newspapers, scrap metal, waste recycled. These creations reflect the personal experience of their authors, their inner worlds, their obsessions, but also the context economic, social and political aspects of their country. They give Cuba a vision authentic, alternative, far removed from the stereotypes often associated with this country. Exhibition: Collection de l'Art Brut, Lausanne, from December 5, 2024 to April 27 2025
