AUTOMATED PHOTOGRAPHY
AUTOMATED PHOTOGRAPHY
For about twenty years, photographers have been integrating into their work
images produced autonomously by machines. We are witnessing a
paradigm shift in the photographic creation process: From the
photographic capture in the strict sense of appropriation, practices
automated and computational, which respond to a conception of the space of
less and less built on the equivalence between the human eye and the machine. The
project is situated between theoretical research and applied research: if it
It is necessary to contextualize the changes introduced by automation
in a broader history of photography and visual culture, as well
that in a theoretical reflection on the automated image, it is also
essential to produce a tangible and factual understanding of their challenges
techniques and aesthetics. By combining an analytical and theoretical approach
with a reflection resulting from the practical confrontation with these devices
techniques, the project aims to take advantage of the intersection of these different
areas. The synthesis is based on a practical approach (by applying these
technologies), an aesthetic approach (by analyzing the visual qualities of
these devices and their creative potential) and a theoretical approach (in
placing the practical results in a cultural, social and
policy).
