  • Borderlands is a documentary essay filmed along the American side of the border with Mexico between 2017 and 2019, at the height of the Trump era. The series aims to develop a narrative capable of going beyond the perspective of urgency under which border issues are often presented and to convey the complexity of this strip of land of 3,600 kilometers long. Crossed by migrants and travelers from decades, but also inhabited by very diverse souls, the areas borderlands seem to become a place different from the two countries they separate. Francesco Anselmi is an award-winning documentary photographer based in Milan, Italy. His work focuses on border areas and the various consequences of contemporary border policies on the people who live there live. He is currently working on a long-term project on communities border areas in the European Union. His images have been published and exhibited worldwide.
