For several years, Irène Jonas has been meeting with the booksellers on the quays of Seine, their history, their daily life and, for the past year, their inter- rogations in the face of their planned move for the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024. Bouquinistes de Paris is the fruit of this long-term work: excerpts from interviews and documentary or historical texts follow one another at black and white photographs imbued with mystery and nostalgia for a Paris gone. Through his professions as a sociologist and photographer, writing and image have always been present in Irene Jonas' professional life. However, she freed herself from sociological writing and photographic reporting, in order to develop a form of personal expression. For the past ten years, she focused her personal and artistic research on photography visual artist. Bouquinistes de Paris is her fourth work published by Éditions de July.
