Posada Skulls
Posada Skulls
“Mexican” Day of the Dead, calaveras, dancing skeletons, dances
macabre, Catrinas... The resurgence of representations of "joyful" Death is
notable, and partly linked to the posthumous glory of the engraver José Guadalupe
Posada. Faced with this recent craze, it is time to give some explanations
succinct but precise on the differences between All Saints' Day, the 1st and 2nd
November, Halloween... and explain the context of production of these images
surprising. This little book presents for the first time, in small format, the
wonderful series of calaveras by Posada, this genius engraver who, in the
1890s in Mexico, revolutionized the representation of the dead in art.
