Roger Ballen Call Of The Void-Ed French
Roger Ballen. Call of the Void is the eighth in a series of exhibitions at
Tinguely Museum under the title Danse macabre with works responding to the work
Jean Tinguely Mengele's late Totentanz (Kehrer 2017). In his photographs
and often disturbing and unsettling installations, Ballen examines the psyche
human and poses, as well as to the spectator, questions about being and
become. Call of the Void consists of two parts: The walls are covered with
photographs from Ballen's latest analogue series, Asylum of the
Birds and Roger's Rats, while the center of the space is dominated by a
hut, a poor dwelling for people on the margins of society. Born in
1950 in New York and settled in Johannesburg, South Africa, since 1982,
Roger Ballen is one of the most important photographers of his generation. He
has published more than 25 books internationally and his collections include
found in the greatest museums in the world
