Chris Ware - Comics Reinvented
Chris Ware - Comics Reinvented
Chris Ware is arguably the most important comic book artist of recent times.
recent years, and not only in the United States, his country of birth and
residence. His main albums, Jimmy Corrigan, Building Stories and Rusty
Brown are translated, celebrated and commented on throughout the world. Multiple
rewarded, he received in June 2021 the Grand Prix d'Angoulême for his entire career
his work. Abundantly illustrated with rare or unpublished images, this first
monograph in French offers several crossings of a work already
imposing although still in full development. There is a presentation
chronological as well as two long interviews given to Benoît Peeters (in 2003
and in 2021). Great connoisseur of the history and aesthetics of the band
drawn, Chris Ware holds on to his own work and the art of the strip
drawn a speech of extreme richness. This is why the work includes
also four articles by him. The last part of the book offers several
studies by Jacques Samson, analyzing the originality and modernity of the work of
Chris Ware.
Jacques Samson lives in Montreal. After a career in teaching (band
drawing, cinema, literature), he maintains a passion more active than ever
for comics. At Impressions Nouvelles, he published the monograph
Emmanuel Guibert in good company.
Writer and screenwriter, Benoît Peeters is the author of Hergé, son of Tintin and
to Read the Comic Strip (Flammarion). With François Schuiten, he designed and
developed the series Les Cités obscures, which won numerous awards and
translated worldwide.
