\nResource scarcity, climate change, and the digitalization of everyday life are fueling the economy of exchange, sharing, and lending, all of which are in some way linked to a culture of the commons. In this context, we understand commons to be community processes that collectively use, manage, and organize commonly accessible resources, whether goods or knowledge. Commons in Design explores the meaning and impact of commons—particularly knowledge-based peer commons—and acts of commoning in design. It addresses networked, participatory, and open procedures based on commons and commoning, testing models that negotiate the use of commons in design processes. In doing so, it critically engages with questions about designers’ positions, everyday practices, self-understandings, ways of working, and approaches to education.
