Fine Arts of Strasbourg, from October 2012 to January 2013Major figure of the
contemporary art scene, Annette Messager will present in the fall of 2012, at the
Museum of Fine Arts in Strasbourg, his latest works in a collection
entitled Black Continents. If his work has always mixed the playful with
the disturbing, his new pieces evoke the tensions of today's world, a
world whose time escapes us. Fragile hair moving at the whim of
wind tunnels, abandoned shoes and small everyday objects covered
of a dark sheet of crumpled aluminum foil, scattered on the ground under a tarpaulin,
suspended and mobile elements unfolding like a black and threatening mass,
both aerial and terribly heavy, these installations and works oscillate
between the monumental and the miniature. They arouse the feeling of the unstable
and the fugitive, and echo the tensions of today's world. Threats
ecological and modern-day troubles are reflected in his
installations that have become so many dark continents. Traces or vestiges of a world
rather disturbing imagination, the latest creations of Annette Messager
delve into the mystery of their origins. On the occasion of this work, Annette
Messenger asked the American writer Norman Springer to write a text
discussing his recent work. A science fiction author, Springer portrays in
his novels and short stories from fantastic universes on the verge of drifting.
