Beliefs
Beliefs
The 5th Biennale of Art Brut will offer a new facet of the funds of the
Collection of Art Brut. Dedicated to the theme of beliefs, it will reveal as much
the special link that the authors of Art Brut maintain with religion
than the occult sciences. Several creators illustrate mystical subjects
by reinterpreting them or appropriating religious rites. Others
invent a completely personal doctrine for their own use and, like
almighty demiurges, they integrate their productions into their new
confession, using them as support for prophecies or to ward off evil
bad luck. As for the many spiritualists or inspired mediums who claim to be
in relation to the beyond, they create under the dictation of the deceased, spirits or
supernatural forces and evade authorship of their works. By
their diverse and original beliefs, all transcend in their own way
often difficult living conditions. The selection of works will also present
many illustrations of divinities, saints or religious figures, that
abstract compositions of great refinement, paintings of character
symbolist and ritual objects.
