DAY FOR NIGHT
A Japanese artist of the post-war generation, Toshio Shibata works
for many years around the notion of landscape. It is notably
known for his photographs of monumental infrastructures, a set
works already presented in September 2013, at the Polka Galerie on the occasion of
the exhibition "Abstraction of space". The production of the series "Night
Photos" occupies a special place in the artist's work. These
photographs, taken only at night in the 80s and presented
today to the public, are in black and white when its current production is in
color. The artist looks back on his work by delving into his own
archives, selecting black and white images to emphasize the approach
and the nocturnal aspect which gives a strangeness to this whole, and gives to this
series a very personal imprint without the author appearing (...)
