Peter Märkli's "drawn" work can be studied independently of its constructed work. Sometimes, we find these drawings in his completed works but, in general, it is more about projects or more precisely themes of potential projects. For Märkli, drawing is a sensitive treatment of stimuli and suggestions, a personal appropriation of an experience. Its drawings sometimes show marks of erasure, of hesitation. They are readable in superposition and allow multiple levels of reading, in thickness, depth: this is clearly a search for answers. The idea is expressed in variations: color, proportions, hierarchies, order, full and empty, movement. The drawn sheet is therefore the place where the idea is not not “simply” represented or described, but rather this tortuous path where it is born, develops and becomes more precise. After Peter Märkli. In search of a language, published in 2019 by Cosa Mentale, Caryatide, once again offers a study in-depth study of the work of Peter Märkli. The book Peter Märkli. Drawings, disegni is presented as a reissue (Franco-Italian edition), expanded and updated day with unpublished plates, from the original work published by Quart Verlag in 2015 (Anglo-German edition). The book consists of a selection from the corpus of 700 drawings collected over the years by Peter Märkli himself. The drawings are accompanied by eight essays written by authors linked to Peter Märkli.
