The most common way to prove that you are not a robot is to analyze a series of photographs and select those that depict a bus, a motorcycle, a fire hydrant or a traffic light. Through this simple but effective means, you demonstrate your ability to interpret images and automatically position yourself beyond the capabilities of traditional operating systems or viruses. Until now. The ability of machines to “see” has improved dramatically in recent decades, meaning that computers have been trained, by humans, to recognize and generate images that come shockingly close to a photograph. We recognized the need for a platform to understand the mechanisms behind the technology, discuss how the photographic medium is influenced and the ways in which we must adapt our reading and processing of images.
