FRAGILE AS GLASS
FRAGILE AS GLASS
With her book Fragile as Glass, Sitara Thalia Ambrosio presents an essay
sensitive and moving photograph that documents the fate of several
homosexual people in Ukraine. This long-term project creates a space for
images and thoughts that are increasingly hidden in times of crisis
and war. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022,
The country's political and social reform initiated by Euromaidan has been put to the test
ordeal. Old priorities have changed, been relegated to the background or
are more relevant than ever. The difficult situation of the community is
further exacerbated by the war, homophobic and anti-trans propaganda led by
Russia and the persecution of queer activists. The book tells their story
as an example. Quotes and interviews complement the photos
documentaries of the lives of the five protagonists. In portraits and
intimate, powerful and moving statements, the fragility of their situation is
exposed and it becomes evident that the war is affecting their lives, their
environment, their identity and their sexuality.
