Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter
[French version]
This second notebook from the Louis Vuitton Foundation is dedicated to Gerhard Richter.
It presents the corpus of the artist's thirty-two works in the collection of
the Louis Vuitton Foundation, accompanying them with a unique interview with
the artist and richly illustrated critical texts.
The interview with Gerhard Richter conducted by Dieter Schwarz puts into perspective the
career of this major artist of the contemporary scene. The painter evokes
freely his relations with the artists of his generation, Blinky Palermo,
Robert Ryman, Sol LeWitt, or Joseph Beuys, his pictorial work – Paintings
gray to 4900 Colors or Strips –, but also his work on the
books like Atlas, Wald, or Birkenau.
The book also includes a preface by Suzanne Pagé and texts by
art critic Philippe Dagen, Sébastien Gokalp and Olivier Michelon,
especially on 4900 Farben.
Richly illustrated with more than sixty representations of the painter's works,
This volume offers a retrospective look at more than fifty years of painting. It
is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the Louis Vuitton collection at the
Foundation from February 20 to August 29, 2019.
