ENGRAVING LIGHT - ILLUSTRATIONS, COLOR

Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Piranesi, Tiepolo, Palézieux, Morandi and Corot, such as are some of the great names featured in the pages of this volume which will accompany the exhibition proposed by the Marmottan Monet Museum in Paris from beginning of July 2023. The works presented in the book are true masterpieces of engraving and heliography. Their reproductions allow us to trace the history of engraving and xylography from the 15th century to the freer inventions of the 20th century, some of which are due to outsider artists. The visual narrative does not follow a chronological path : Florian Rodari, the book's editor, has set himself the goal of making to highlight the affinities between old masters and modern artists, this that only a free and sensitive rapprochement can allow. Far from the idea of confrontation and hierarchy, this volume recalls that the questions formal and technical ambitions transcend the time of history art.
